Railroad House Gothic 8 Day Mechanical Cuckoo Clock 48cm By GERHARD SCHMIEDER

Measuring 48cm in height*, this impressive hand-carved clock features the design of a railroad house, or, Bahnhäusleuhr in German, which resembles an important milestone in the history of Black Forest Clock Making. The design came to be in the mid 18th century, by Friedrich Eisenlohr, an architect for a railroad company, who was inspired by the houses of railroad gatekeepers. This vintage reproduction is a bold design, and features deep and detailed carvings with an ornate gothic inspired aesthetic - features which set Gerhard Schmieder cuckoo clocks apart.

Additional details to complete the overall design feature include the clock dial, numerals and hands which are also made from wood. The clock has been finished in a dark antique colour, adding to the overall gothic aesthetic of the clock. As this clock is an 8 day mechanism, the weights need to be wound once a week. The in-built cuckoo of this clock calls the time each hour through a door that opens, and this clock does not play any music. 

What sets this clock apart is that the entire piece has been carved and hand signed by one person - Gerhard Schmieder, who has seen the project through from start to completion.
