The Bernese mountain dog originated from the Alps region and likes being outdoors, particularly in the winter months. They enjoy human company, are gentle and friendly and know how to behave. Bernese mountain dogs generally weigh around 45 kilos when fully grown, and carry out draught, shepherding and driving tasks. For this reason they are commonly used as search and rescue dogs.
