A Traditional Black Forest Quartz Kuckulino

Great things come in small packages, and this traditional crafted kuckulino is no exception. This delightful timepiece was produced by artisan clock makers TRENKLE from Simonswald in the Black Forest region of Germany.

Measuring 15cm in height*, this beautiful clock features a forest chalet clock design, a common clock design shaped as alpine houses, featuring details that represent life in the mountain regions of Europe (around southern Germany, Switzerland and Austria). This particular clock features a wooden chalet with a timber facade, with a tractor and a bench seat out the front of the chalet, along with a goat and a tree. Additional features include hand painted window shutters and flowers in the windowsills. A wooden clock dial is featured in the centre of the timber chalet, whilst a green bird is featured above the clock dial, and a polished brass pendulum hangs below the clock alongside decorative display weights. This timepiece is powered by a high quality quartz movement that is accurate at keeping time. It is recommended to change the batteries annually to ensure longevity of your clock mechanism.

Perhaps the most unique feature of this timepiece is the addition of 2 Edelweiss flowers high on the chalet. The white star shaped Edelweiss flower is unique to the alps, mainly of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Its name means 'Noble White' and represents strength, toughness, bravery and courage. This is because the flower survives the harshest winters at very high altitudes.

What is a Kuckulino Clock?

A kuckulino clock is a small timepiece produced in the Black Forest, featuring carved and chalet designs, along with the traditional swinging doll style. Quaint in size, kuckulino clocks make the cuckoo call each hour, however they do not feature a cuckoo bird popping out, in contrast to a traditional cuckoo clock. Using the three way switch on most kuckulinos, you can alternate between three options- a quiet cuckoo call; alternating through a different melody each hour; or no sound at all.
