About The Giraffe
Despite the camouflage spots in their fur that help them appear as trees from afar, giraffes do not always remain undetected by predators. They are the tallest land mammals after all, with an average neck length of 180cm, with some giraffes having necks that are 300 cm in length! Despite its unusually long neck, the giraffe features the same number of vertebrae as humans. They know how to defend themselves and can kick really hard with their front hooves to defend their young. In fact, an adult can kill a lion with a single hefty kick. They can go for days without water, and graze across the treetops of the Southern African Savannah.
Baby giraffes are reared together with other young animals in a kind of kindergarten. A female giraffe from the herd acts as the "nursery school teacher" and looks after the calves while the other mothers search for food.
