About The Trakehner Breed

A Trakehener mare is only allowed to breed with a Trakehner, Arab or Thoroughbred stallion- a rule intended to preserve the breed’s elegant build and spirited character. Trakehners originated in the East Prussian town of Trakehnen, near Kaliningrad in Russia. They are believed to be Germany’s oldest horse breed. Their coat gets lighter every year, and at some point becomes completely white. Trakehner are considered a very noble warmblood breed with a liveliness, elegance and good temperament. Trakehner are talented sport horses and often win medals at tournaments. Their stamina and intelligence means that their strengths lie primarily in eventing and endurance riding.
