Find the Right Winding Key for Your Clock

Clock keys come in different numbers (e.g # 6 or #10 etc). These numbers represent the size of the winding shaft of your clock, which will in turn tell you which key to purchase. If you don’t know what size key you require you’ll have to measure the thickness of your winding key shaft in your clock using a vernier caliper, then refer to the picture below to purchase the relevant key.

Important Note: make sure to order one size above your measured shaft size. So if your measured shaft size is 2.75mm (Key #2), you should order Key #3.

This brass winding key is labelled as #10, with a winding key shaft size of 4.75mm. It will suit most mechanical clocks. Each key is stamped with the key size and key square dimension.
